2024 Tengchong Science Award Laureate

Xue Qikun

Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor of Tsinghua University, President of Southern University of Science and Technology. Academician Qikun Xue led a team to discover for the first time experimentally the quantum anomalous Hall effect using a special material, magnetic topological insulator film, which is an important physical phenomenon independently observed experimentally by Chinese scientists, and an important scientific discovery in the field of basic research in the world. His team also discovered interface-enhanced high-temperature superconductivity for the first time. He is the first Chinese scientist to win the Oliver Barclay Prize, the highest international award in condensed matter physics, and the Fritz London Prize, the highest international award in low-temperature physics, and was honored with the State Highest Science and Technology Award in 2024.

Xie Xiaoliang

Xie Xiaoliang is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the Academy of Arts and Sciences of the United States of America, the director of the Changping Laboratory, and the Lee Shau Kee Chair Professor and Director of the Department of Science at Peking University. Xie Xiaoliang is one of the founders of single-molecule biophysical chemistry and a pioneer in coherent Raman scattering microimaging and single-cell genomics. The whole genome amplification technology invented by his team has enabled more than 10,000 families with single-gene genetic diseases to successfully avoid offspring transmission of the disease.
