On December 13, 2023, the Organizing Committee Office of the 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum held a working meeting to further summarize the successful experiences of the 2023 forum, analyze problems and shortcomings, and discuss the continuous development of a world-class scientific forum with Chinese characteristics and Yunnan features. The meeting aimed to plan the high-quality preparation for the 2024 Tengchong Scientists Forum and the next steps.
The meeting noted that the 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum built on the successful experience of the inaugural forum, placing greater emphasis on international perspectives, integration with national strategies, addressing actual needs, and mobilizing social participation. The number of academicians, university presidents, experts, and entrepreneurs attending the forum doubled compared to the first forum, and the collaborations on talent and projects facilitated by the forum increased by nearly 50% from the previous year. The forum's specifications were higher, its scale larger, its influence wider, and its effects more substantial. The image of China's "Tech Davos" became more ingrained in people's minds, presenting a brilliant, high-end, and fruitful scientific event to domestic and international guests.
The meeting emphasized that while the current forum was a complete success, there were still some deficiencies. Specifically, to benchmark against world-class forums, there is a need to continuously enhance the internationalization, professionalism, uniqueness, and market-oriented level of the event. Discussions were held regarding the dispersed forum venues, the lack of focus in themes and fields, and the inadequacy of conference and reception services, with comprehensive reviews of shortcomings and proposed optimization measures.
Wang Xueqin, Director of the Forum Organizing Committee Office, expressed gratitude to the main units (departments) and personnel involved in the forum's organization and implementation. He pointed out that benchmarking against world-class forums would no longer pursue scale but rather focus on excellence and strength.
Efforts must be made to continuously expand the forum's influence. This includes implementing the global civilization initiative action list requirements, striving to register the forum as an international organization as soon as possible, and establishing the forum's development foundation promptly. The theme for the 2024 forum should be collected and established quickly, with the overall plan and annual work schedule for the 2024 Tengchong Scientists Forum completed.
It is crucial to comprehensively enhance the professional capabilities of organizing the forum. The Tengchong Scientists Forum Center should fully utilize its role, improve the market-oriented operation mechanism, strengthen personnel training, optimize the conference system, and enhance professional service levels. The market cooperation plan for the 2024 forum should be detailed as soon as possible.
The outcomes of the forum should be further leveraged. All results and cultural materials from the 2023 forum need to be comprehensively organized and compiled. Follow-up services for the cooperative projects generated by the forum should be maintained, and new cooperation connections should be continuously promoted and serviced. The scientific resources and scientist resources of the forum should be transformed into an innovative driving force for Yunnan's economic and social development. Efforts should be made to involve as many prefectures, institutes, universities, and enterprises as possible, making good use of the resources and promoting the transformation and implementation of more forum results in Yunnan.
Accelerating the construction and improvement of the forum's core functional area is necessary. Centered around the forum's existing fixed venue, an overall plan for the Tengchong Scientists Forum's core functional area should be developed, including the construction of a supporting conference center. The goal is to meet the needs of parallel sub-forums and most special events for the 2024 forum with minimal investment, creating a world-class forum hardware environment characterized by uniqueness, high-end quality, and international standards.
