From April 18 to 20, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Tsinghua University, Li Luming, led a delegation to visit Yunnan. In Kunming, they signed a scientific and technological cooperation agreement on ecological environment with the Yunnan Provincial Government. They also held discussions with representatives from the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee Organization Department, the Tengchong Scientist Forum Center, and the Tsinghua University Yunnan Alumni Association, as well as Tsinghua alumni and selected graduates working in Yunnan. Additionally, President Li's delegation visited Nanjian County in Dali, a target area for the university's paired assistance and rural revitalization efforts.

Provincial Party Secretary Wang Ning and Deputy Party Secretary and Governor Wang Yubo held working talks with President Li Luming and his delegation. Wang Ning and Wang Yubo expressed gratitude for Tsinghua University's long-standing support for Yunnan, and expressed hopes for continued practical cooperation in areas such as educational development, scientific and technological innovation and transformation, talent cultivation and recruitment, industrial development, and highland lake protection and management. They also emphasized the importance of inheriting and promoting the spirit of the Southwest Associated University. They highlighted Tsinghua University's international influence in education and science and technology, and its support for the Tengchong Scientist Forum. They expressed a commitment to deepening targeted assistance and special support, advancing rural revitalization in Nanxian County. The Yunnan Provincial Government will fully support Tsinghua University’s initiatives in Yunnan, providing a conducive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship for Tsinghua students and young talents.

President Li Luming noted that Tsinghua University and Yunnan share a special historical bond with deep and close relations. They have maintained long-term cooperation in areas such as targeted assistance, educational support, and talent exchange. Tsinghua University is willing to further expand the depth and breadth of cooperation with Yunnan, using ecological environment protection and management, the Southwest Joint Graduate School, and the Tengchong Scientist Forum as entry points to strengthen cooperation in education and technology. Tsinghua University will continue to support the comprehensive rural revitalization of Nanxian County, working together to achieve new milestones in high-quality development.

At the Tengchong Scientist Forum Center, President Li and his delegation learned about the forum's basic situation, plans for the 2024 forum, and the preparation for the sub-forums, including the Presidents' Forum and the Technology + Finance Forum, which Tsinghua University co-organizes. He affirmed that Tsinghua University will continue to support the Tengchong Scientist Forum, promoting breakthroughs in scientific research, talent cultivation, and technology transfer. University academicians, experts, and alumni will actively participate in the forum’s activities, helping Yunnan to establish the Tengchong Scientist Forum as a high-end, international, and distinctive "Technology Davos Forum," thereby supporting Yunnan’s sustainable development and the national "Belt and Road" initiative.

In two symposiums held with Tsinghua University alumni representatives from various parts of Yunnan, President Li Luming shared recent developments at the university, its outstanding achievements, and future development directions. He encouraged Tsinghua alumni in Yunnan to always remember the school motto, "Self-Discipline and Social Commitment," to remain true to their original aspirations, overcome difficulties, and pursue excellence in their respective fields, thereby contributing more to this great era, the country, the nation, and Yunnan.
