The Tengchong Scientists Forum 2025·Innovative Development and Open Cooperation in Modern Agriculture with Plateau Characteristics (Lincang) Satellite Conference in Lincang on 17 Augustunder the theme‘Empowering Industry through Technology, Connecting the World through Openness’. Aligned with Lincang's unique highland agricultural resources, its strategic border opening location, and industrial development needs, the event facilitated the signing of 51 scientific cooperation projects, including the‘Innovation and Promotion Project for New Coffee Varieties and Technologies’. The total investment pledged reached 1.85 billion rmb.

This thematic event leveraged the resources of The Tengchong Scientists Forum to establish a platform for in-depth exchange and collaboration among scientists, entrepreneurs, and distinguished guests from various sectors. Over 400 attendees, including academicians, renowned experts and scholars, entrepreneurs, and representatives from relevant institutions across the nation, gathered for the occasion. Distinguished speakers included: Academician Zhu Yuxian of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dean of the Institute for Advanced Studies at Wuhan University; Academician Chen Jun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the Moganshan Geoinformation Laboratory, and Professor at the National Basic Geographic Information Centre; Academician Du Guanben of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the Yunnan Association for Science and Technology; and Academician Pan Canping, Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering and Professor at China Agricultural University, among other leading experts, attended the event. Academicians and specialists from various fields provided insights and recommendations for the innovative development and open cooperation of Lincang's plateau-specific agriculture. Their contributions offered scientific guidance for advancing modern plateau agriculture nationwide and expanding open cooperation, injecting vigorous momentum into these endeavours.
The event featured a diverse programme of activities, facilitating seamless integration between science and technology and the economy.


A keynote speech; two parallel sessions on Innovative Development of Modern Agriculture with Plateau Characteristics and Open Cooperation and five specialised exchange sessions were held successively: dedicated forums for the tea and coffee industries, the nut and walnut industries, the biomedicine sector, the foreign trade and economic sector, and the construction of the National Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation Demonstration Zone. Centred on advancing the construction of Lincang's National Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation Demonstration Zone to high standards, the forum leveraged Lincang's abundant plateau-specific agricultural resources and border location advantages. It addressed the bottleneck of weak conversion capacity for distinctive resources through interactive discussions involving government, industry, academia, and research institutions, alongside enterprise-to-enterprise exchanges. This approach fully tapped into Lincang's strengths in plateau-specific agricultural resources and its strategic border positioning.

During the event, a physical exhibition will showcase Lincang's speciality products including premium teas, nuts, coffee, and medicinal herbs, alongside intangible cultural heritage pieces from ethnic groups such as the Wa and Dai. Guests will also be taken on field trips to locations including Shuangjiang, Fengqing, Gengma, and Zhenkang to observe firsthand the development of tea and coffee industries, border trade economies, and other sectors. This will enable attendees to personally experience the latest achievements in Lincang's highland agriculture and its progress in opening up to the outside world.

Through panoramic displays and on-site matchmaking, attendees gained a comprehensive insight into the development of modern agricultural industries with plateau characteristics. They precisely aligned technological achievements with innovation demands, experiencing the distinctive feature of the Tengchong Scientists Forum in building bridges between scientists and entrepreneurs. This laid a solid foundation for deeper exchanges, investment, and collaboration in the future.

Since 2024, Lincang has hosted Tengchong Scientists Foru·Innovative Development and Open Cooperation in Modern Agriculture with Plateau Characteristics Satellite Conference. These initiatives have facilitated the implementation of 12 high-level technological achievements and 23 scientific cooperation projects within Lincang. Now, 32 academician (expert) workstations have been established across fields including science and technology, agriculture, healthcare, and new energy. Eighty-three innovation platforms have been established, including a national nut testing laboratory and a national regional crop variety trial station. 57 major scientific and technological achievements have been successfully commercialised, encompassing the comprehensive upgrading of the sugarcane industry chain and the development of China rose varieties.
In the future, The Tengchong Scientists Forum will continue to establish a high-level dialogue platform centered on research and development needs, corporate requirements, investment demands, and industrial necessities. It will persistently advance the integration of scientific innovation and industrial development, thereby contributing wisdom and strength to the construction of a Beautiful China.
