The 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum commenced at the Tengchong Science Hallon 6 December.
The 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum, jointly organised by the People's Government of Yunnan Province and the China Association for Science and Technology, commenced at the Tengchong Science Hallon 6 December.

Academician Pan Jian-wei, recipient of the 2025 Tengchong Science Award, took to the stage to receive his honour.
Academician Gu Binglin, Chair of the Tengchong Scientists Forum, and Academician Rao Zihe, Co-Chair, presented the award to Academician Pan Jian-wei. The ceremony announced the inaugural Tengchong Young Scientist Award recipients, released ten exemplary cases of forum outcomes transformation, ten major academic achievements, ten key science and technology cooperation initiatives, and the report Science and Technology Foresight and Future Vision 2049.
Ding Zhongli, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the opening ceremony and delivered an address. Wang Ning, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, delivered a speech, while Wang Yubo, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor, presided over the event. Feng Shenhong, Vice-Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, and Academician Gu Binglin also delivered addresses.

Ding Zhongli stated that artificial intelligence, as the core engine of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, has not only propelled paradigm shifts in scientific research but also provided novel approaches and methodologies for addressing numerous challenges facing humanity. Facing this historic opportunity, we should uphold openness, inclusiveness, exchange and mutual learning to jointly build a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive global innovation ecosystem. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee has made strategic arrangements for accelerating high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-strengthening. China remains a steadfast supporter and active contributor to global scientific and technological innovation cooperation. We will continue to engage more openly in global science and technology governance, working together to ensure AI technology is harnessed for the greater good of humanity, deploying this powerful tool to promote peace and enhance well-being. Yunnan serves as both a gateway hub connecting South and Southeast Asia and a distinctive land brimming with scientific and technological innovation potential. We look forward to Yunnan becoming a distinctive high ground for international scientific and technological innovation cooperation.

Wang Ning stated that, riding the momentum of building a science and technology powerhouse, the Tengchong Scientists Forum has made steady progress, gaining recognition as a major global civilisational dialogue event with growing influence. We shall thoroughly implement the arrangements of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the guiding principles from General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech during his inspection of Yunnan. We will continue to deepen cooperation with all parties: by prioritising the integration of industry, academia, research and application to jointly establish an application highland for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements; and by deepening exchanges and mutual learning to jointly establish a cooperation highland for international scientific and technological innovation. With the strong support of Chinese and international stakeholders, the day when the Tengchong Scientists Forum achieves its vision of becoming the‘Davos of Science and Technology’will surely arrive sooner. Feng Shenhong stated that the China Association for Science and Technology will continue to support the forum's innovative development, playing a leading and unifying role. It will uphold innovation-driven development, foster collaboration among innovation entities, establish a fast-track for the efficient conversion of scientific and technological achievements, and forge new engines for productive forces. It will strengthen talent support, facilitate a virtuous cycle in education, science, and technology, attract global talent, and activate the driving force for high-quality development. It will deepen exchanges and cooperation, jointly devising new mechanisms for scientific and cultural exchanges, sharing opportunities and pursuing common development with the international scientific community and industry.

Gu Binglin stated that the Tengchong Scientists Forum will uphold its guiding principle of‘Science and Technology Leading the Future’, playing a greater role in promoting high-quality development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. It will strive to be a pioneer in achieving‘self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology’, an explorer in building an‘innovation ecosystem’, and a bridge-builder for‘global scientific cooperation’.
Gong Qihuang, President of Peking University, and Hu Xingheng, Vice Secretary of State for Industry and Technology Innovation of Cambodia, delivered speeches.

At the opening ceremony, agreements were signed for the recruitment of high-level talent and major project collaborations.
During the opening ceremony, the provincial government signed science and technology cooperation agreements with Peking University and Nankai University, and provincial-university cooperation agreements with the National University of Defense Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, and Lanzhou University. Signing ceremonies were held for the recruitment of high-level talent and major project collaborations.
Centred on the overarching theme of‘Science and Technology Leading the Future’and the sub-theme‘Science and AI Transforming the World’, this forum featured a keynote forum, ten parallel sessions, and a series of related events. Gathering in Tengchong were 133 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, including foreign academicians; 77 university presidents from China and abroad; over 400 experts and scholars; and more than 600 entrepreneurs and financiers, all engaging in discussions to collectively advance scientific and technological innovation. Government officials from relevant domestic and international bodies, consular representatives from relevant countries in China, representatives from international organisations, relevant leaders from Yunnan Province, and distinguished guests from various sectors attended the opening ceremony.
