2025 Tengchong Science Award Nomination Guidelines

This guide has been developed to assist nominators and nominees in understanding the conditions, procedures, and points of attention regarding the nomination for the Tengchong Science Award.

I.About theTengchong Science Award

1.TheTengchong Science Awardis a non-profit award jointly initiated by Academician Gu Binglin (former President of Tsinghua University), Academician Xu Zhihong (former President of Peking University), and Academician Rao Zihe (former President of Nankai University). The award aims to encourage scientists to pursue truth, pioneer innovations, achieve significant breakthroughs in key scientific fields, and make outstanding contributions to human societal development.

2.TheTengchong Science Awardprimarily focuses on fields such as Biomedicine andMedicine (HolisticHealth), Agriculture and EnvironmentalEcology (Biodiversity, Ecological Environment, Modern Agriculture), and Technology and Information Science (New Materials, Green Energy, Advanced Manufacturing, Digital Economy,andArtificial Intelligence). It covers natural sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and interdisciplinary fields. The award recognizes scientists worldwide who have made significant breakthroughs at the scientific frontier, advanced human scientific knowledge, addressed major global challenges through technological innovation, or produced major economic or social benefits through their research.

3.The award will be granted to 1 to 3 individuals (or teams), with specific numbers determined by the nomination and final evaluation process. Each winner (or team) will receive a prize of USD 1.5 million or RMB 10 million. If multiple winners are selected in the same category, up to three individuals (or teams) can share a single prize. The award ceremony is planned for the opening of the 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum.

II.Nomination Process

1.Nomination Invitation

TheTengchong Science Awardoperates on an invitation-based nomination system; self-nominations are not accepted. Nominators primarily include winners of major global awards, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and renowned experts and scholars from prestigious universities, research institutions, and international academic organizations. Nominee information and other nomination-related information will not be released to the public for a specified period of time.

2.Nomination Requirements

(1)Each nominee can submit one nomination per year, each nomination recommending one person or a team (the number of team members does not exceed 3), each nomination is valid for the current year;

(2)Nominees cannot participate in the assessment under any circumstances;

(3)The three prize proponents are not considered nominees.

3.Submission of Nomination Materials

Nomination materials should be submitted via email toaward@tsfcenter.cnby24:00 (GMT+8) on September 15, 2025.

III.Required Materials

Nominees must submit a《Nomination Form for theTengchong Science Award》, which can be completed in either Chinese or English and includes the following:

1.Nominator's Curriculum Vitae.

2.Support letters: Each nominator must submit a support letter for the nominee (or team).

3.Nominee-related documents:

(1)Personal information, education, and work experience;

(2)Academic achievements, research projects, and representative works;

(3)Other relevant documents that may support the nominee, including but not limited to autobiographies, publications, certificates etc.

IV.Selection Process

1.Preliminary Review

The Selection Committee Office will conduct a preliminary review of the nomination materials.

2.Letter Evaluation

Organize experts from both domestic and international sectors to conduct a Letter Evaluation of candidates (teams) that have passed the initial review. Candidates (teams) must receive votes from at least half of the evaluation experts in the LetterEvaluation (Note: Those who agree to participate in the Letter Evaluation but fail to respond by the deadline will be considered to have"withdrawn"and will be included in the statistics of evaluation experts) to proceed to the meeting evaluation. The number of candidates (teams) selected through the Letter Evaluation to proceed to the meeting evaluation shall not exceed half of the total number of participants.

3.Conference Selection

Candidates (teams) entering the Conference Selection process will be evaluated. Candidates (teams) must receive votes from at least two-thirds of the selection experts in the Conference Selection process to be eligible as award nominees. If there are more than three award nominees, the final selection will be made based on the order of votes received, with no more than three individuals (teams) being selected as award nominees.

4.Public announcement

During the 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum, the final list of winners (teams) will be announced to the public.

V.Guidelines for Award Recipients

1.The award winners must agree to attend theTengchong Science Awardceremony during the 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum.

2.The selection process must be kept strictly confidential prior to the award ceremony, and no information about the winner may be disclosed to the public.

3.The winners agree that photographs, videos, and written materials related to theTengchong Science Awardmay be used for global publication and audiovisual media promotion, including but not limited to print media, television, the internet, outdoor displays, corporate publications, and exhibitions.

4.TheTengchong Science Awardselection process emphasizes honesty and transparency, respecting and protecting the privacy of nominees throughout the process and ensuring the security of all nominee data.

VI.Other Matters

TheTengchong Science AwardSelection Committee is responsible for interpreting these guidelines.
